In an interview with Reuters, the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization warns of another food crisis.
In anticipation of next week's global summit on food security, the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization's (FAO) Director-General Jacques Diouf said in an interview with Reuters, "The fundamentals that led to the crisis in 2007-2008 are almost all still there," indicating that there could be another food crisis.  Stating that politics don't hold fighting hunger and poverty at a high enough priority, Jacques Diouf reminded us about the high raise in staple foods in 2007-2008 and the riots that ensued.  In order to ensure that such a crisis doesn't happen again, say many, developed countries need to raise the percent earmarked for aid to 17%, as well as help farmers with things like roads to the market, and seeds that are resistant to disease.
The summit, which will be held in Rome on November 16-18, will discuss boosting funding as well as communications between governments, institutions, and civil society to help curb global hunger.
