About Elise Fiber Smith:

As a groundbreaking advocate for women’s advancement worldwide, Elise Fiber Smith co-founded Women Thrive Worldwide with Ritu Sharma in 1998 to be a constant voice for women and girls living in poverty in developing countries.

Elise’s inspirational work on gender and development spans more than 40 years and four continents. As Executive Director of the League of Women Voter’s Overseas Education Fund, she built the capacity of hundreds of women leaders around the world, catapulting many of them to higher visibility and success. Through collaboration, Elise helped them find and strengthen their own voices and become effective advocates for women and girls. At Winrock International, she launched the Network of African Women Leaders in Agriculture so that women could support and advance each other’s work.

Elise is a master at connecting people, organizations, and causes to collectively empower women and girls worldwide. In honor of her accomplishments and legacy, the Elise Fiber Smith Forum will convene diverse voices on issues of development, gender, and policy. These lively and engaging forums will spark debate, creative solutions, and continue the spirit of collaboration embodied by Elise Fiber Smith.
