Around the world, a billion people - one out of every six human beings - live in extreme poverty, struggling to survive on about $1 a day and the majority, 829 million, are women. This Fall, Ritu Sharma, Women Thrive's President and Co-founder, traveled to rural Guatemala, one of the poorest countries in Latin America. Ritu spent time with local women - and attempted to experience what they must do everyday - live on less than $1, or 8.3 Quetzales (Guatemala's currency) (read more: www.WomenThrive.org/dollaraday).
